How to Downgrade from iOS 14 and iPadOS 14

Before starting to uninstall iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 and go back to iOS 13, ensure that your iPhone or iPad are fully charged to avoid interrupting the process. The following procedure will help you with downgrading to iOS 13 after installing the iOS 14 beta;

Step 1. If you using an older Mac computer, open iTunes. You can also locate Finder on your macOS Catalina or Big Sur computer and launch it Connect the iPhone or iPad to the computer through a compatible USB cable.

Step 2. Put the iDevice into Recovery mode, a process that differs in multiple devices depending on their models. Use the following tips to put your iDevice into recovery mode correctly.

  • iPhone 6s or earlier and iPad with Home button- Press and hold the Home and Side or Top buttons at the same time. Continue holding until the recovery mode screen shows up.
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus- Press and hold the Top or Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Continue holding until the recovery mode screen appears.
  • iPhone 8 or later- press and quickly release the Volume Up button, then do the same with the Volume Down button. Now press and hold the Side button until the recovery mode screen appears.
  • iPad models with Face ID- press and quickly release the Volume Up function. Press and quickly release the Volume Down utility. Press and hold the Top function until your device restarts. Do not release the Top button until it goes into recovery mode.
  • When the iPhone or iPad are in recovery mode, a dialog will show up requesting you to restore your device. Confirm by hitting the Restore function to wipe your iDevice and instead install the latest public release of iOS 13/iPadOS 13.

Step 3. Be patient as the restoration process completes.

Step 4. When the software restoration completes, proceed restoring a backup from iOS 13 with iCloud or Mac. You can as well set up your iPad or iPhone as a new device.

Alternatively, use the following procedure to downgrade iPadOS 14 beta & revert to iPadOS 13;

Step 1. Open iTunes on Windows PC or older Mac, or use Finder on macOS Catalina or Big Sur

Step 2. Use USB cable to connect iPhone/iPad to computer

Step 3. Click the icon showing your iPad/iPhone in iTunes/Finder

Step 4. Choose the Summary tab in iTunes or General tab in Finder and proceed

  • In Mac, Hold the Option function and hit Restore iPad option

Step 5. Select the iOS 13/iPadOS 13 file that you downloaded earlier and complete the process using the onscreen instructions

Step 6. Note that your iPhone/iPad will restart at least once and you are require to follow the standard set up process once you uninstall iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 and go back to iOS 13. Feel free to restore the iOS 13/iPadOS 13 backup if the compatible version is available. If you do not have a compatible version, simply start afresh without any personal data.
